by 'Rebel' Rod Ames
If you have been reading my blog this week, then you will know that I reviewed Hickoids new release of tunes by artists from across the Atlantic pond, and given a Texas Cowpunk twist to the songs. If you read it, you know I loved it.
For that reason, Hickoids, "Kicking It With the Twits" will be featured tonight on the 4th installment of "After Midnight" on "'Rebel' Rod's From Under the Basement" on KOOK 93.5 in Junction, Texas. It all begins right after "Dixie" plays at the top of the hour. If you tune in you will hear the record uninterrupted and in its entirety.
There are eight tunes on the record, "Pictures of Lily", Have You Seen Your Mother, Baby, Standing in the Shadow?", "Brontosaurus", "Gudbuy T' Jane", "Bennie & the Jets", "Whizz Kid", "Needles in the Camel's Eye", and "Neat, Neat, Neat".
This is a tribute record to the British artists that brought their music to us - The music that was so heavily influenced by American (mostly blues) artists. Every rendition of the tune played by the Hickoids remains true to the original while ingeniously adding their own brand of Texas Cowpunk to each and every song.
If you have not familiarized yourself with Hickoids, well, this may be a good place to start.
And fear not loyal listeners, there will be plenty more on tonight's show. It all gets started beginning at 10pm and going until about 2am on KOOK 93.5, "The Real Deal", in Junction, Texas.
See you on the radio....RR
